Iki island was once called as Oni-ga-shima meaning demons' island because in ancient times many "Oni (demons)" used to terrorize people there.
This powerful warrior Yuriwaka came to the island to defeat them.
He attacked them one by one, cutting their head off. When he finally cut boss’s head off, it flew in the air and bit the helmet Yuriwaka had on his head.

This special kites have been cherished as a traditional craft and an amulet for family safety.
Master craftsperson Hirao has been making the kites for half a century at the atelier where the tradition is about to be passed on to the new generation.
