Experience painting a traditional lantern at a lantern shop which has more than 100 years history, located in Nakasu-Kawabata shopping arcade which has a traditional atmosphere. A skilled craftsman will teach you about the secrets of his trade. He has made lanterns for famous sightseeing spots such as Kushida shrine, Dazaifu-Tenmangu shrine, festivals and restaurants. You can decorate the lantern to your liking and take it back with you as an unique souvenir.
You can paint your favorite letters or illustration. You can also take a photo with a Happi coat (traditional craftsmen costume).
※ If you want to write your name in Kanji (Japanese characters), please let us know the spelling and pronunciation in advance.

This lantern shop has more than 100 years of history: It was built in 1825 (28 of Meiji) and is located in Nakasukawabata Market Street. The big lanterns exhibited at the front will definitely capture your eyes. The lanterns are all made and painted by hand, so you will see beautiful lanterns with sophisticated decorations. You can look over the shoulder of craftsmen making lanterns, too. There are various Japanese souvenirs such as laterns, lucky cats, and etc. Customized orders and shipping overseas are available.
