Canal Tourist Lounge Opening-Media event

博多 Hakata

Hello everyone, my name is Lisa and I’m currently doing an internship at SUiTO.
On the day before the big public opening of the new Canal Tourist Lounge, it’s concept was presented to the press. After the reporters were welcomed at noon, the purpose of the lounge, the day’s program and SUiTO were introduced to them.
The Canal Tourist Lounge’s aim is to provide tourist information, delicious drinks, and to offer Japanese culture experiences.
A group of foreigners, including myself, was invited to the event to authentically demonstrate the various culture experiences for television. We were dressed up in kimonos, created colorful origami cranes and polyhedras and had fun at calligraphy.
I dressed up in a red kimono and chose to draw the kanji representing a flower (hana). The best kanji of each person was either printed on a T-shirt or on a coffee jug, the origamis were hung up on a thin rope to be used as souvenir or gift.
The bar team indulged the reporters with delicious refreshments (e.g. matcha latte). Due to multilingual staff, the Canal Tourist Lounge is offering detailed information in English, Korean and Chinese. A big variety of selected goods is available for sale. After filming and interviewing, the media teams departed to get the material ready for display on air.
