Hello, my name is Lisa and I’m currently doing an internship at SUiTO.
Today I was able to join in a sushi workshop with a guest from Switzerland. The chef Shimizu taught us on how to professionally prepare homemade sushi, probably the most famous dish of the Japanese cuisine.
Afterwards we tried our best at making makizushi. We placed a piece of seaweed on a bamboo mat and covered it with a thin layer of rice. A small strip of rice was seasoned with wasabi. Next we placed tuna fish on top of it. The chef Shimizu demonstrated us a special gripping of the mat to roll the sushi. Afterwards we faced the most difficult part. We had to cut the roll in six uniformly sized pieces by pulling a sharp knife towards ourselves through the roll.
As a reward we were now able to taste our homemade Japanese dish together with a hot broth. During our meal, we talked about different tourist spots in Japan and local food specialties. The sushi was very delicious and I really enjoyed the workshop!
