A refreshing walk around the Kushida shrine!

博多 Hakata

Hello everyone ! Vanessa writing !
Recently I went to the Kushida shrine for the first time. (Yes, I know, two years in Fukuoka and not a single visit, I am pretty ashamed with myself)...
You can access it after strolling through the Kawabata arcade like I did, for an even nicer walk !

Kushida Shrine has the longest history as a village shrine in Fukuoka City. It is said to have been built in 757.
It was broad and magnificent; however, it was destroyed by fire in battle. The present shrine was rebuilt as part of Toyotomi Hideyoshi’s reconstruction of Hakata in 1587.
But you can still see inside that Toyotomi wanted the reconstructed shrine to be as beautiful as the old one. Truly magnificent inside.

Of course there are red toriis, the Shinto shrine archways. I have always liked those I am not really sure why. Maybe it is because it was a predominant image of my vision of Japan before actually coming, and that it reminds me that I am living the dream I have always wanted.

As a temples and shrines lover, I really enjoyed Kushida shrine. It has a very historical background that you can feel all around, and I do recommend it for people who wish to have a real Japanese experience !
