The music al drama called Noh

天神 Tenjin

Hello everyone, it´s Marcel!

Today Kibe-san and I went to Daimaru Fukuoka Tenjin where on the 8th of every month a different special live show takes place.

This time's performance was a major form of classical Japanese musical drama called Noh or Nogaku. The word itself derived from the Japanese word for skill or talent and is the oldest major theater art that is still regularly performed in Japan. Noh is often based on tales from traditional literature with a supernatural being transformed narrating a story.

It was my first time seeing such a traditional Japanese musical drama and I really liked it, even though I didn´t understand what kind of story they were telling. Best part for me was when the group involved the audience into their performance by clapping our hands to their rhythm. It started off quite easily but turned out to be more difficult as they increased the speed of the song.
Today´s performance was just a small taste of their whole show and to raise awareness about their upcoming event. I really recommend to take the chance to watch them if you haven´t seen such a theater play yet.
