天神 Tenjin

The art of wagashi (Japanese sweets) is said to be a composite art that you shall enjoy with your five senses. It all starts with the sense of sight, as the delicious appearance of the Wagashi is prepared and decorated depending on the season. Once more, we will not introduce famous places, but rather yet unfamous ones loved by the local population.

①Around Tenjin
This shop has an elegant atmosphere that can be felt just by looking at its appearance from the outside. It is exactly a shop where you can taste the composite art that is the making of wagashi.
They have a various choice of cute and delicious sweets, which attract new patrons every day.

This shop was established in Nagasaki・Hirado around 240 years ago.
This shop is famous for the way they pay great attention to only using the best seasonal ingredients while making the sweets.
They also regularly offer new products and tastes.

Located in the Daimyo area, close to Tenjin. Established in 1931 and loved by its customers since its opening. Their most famous item is the rice cake stuffed with bean jam. This shop has a big number of fans and people come a long way for the taste of their sweets.

To put it simply, it is a classy taiyaki (fish-shaped pancake filled with bean jam) shop.
They are famous for slowly baking their taiyakis for 30 minutes on low fir, which makes the outside crispy and the bean jam crammed inside will ravish your taste buds.

②Around Ropponmatsu~Sakurajo

It a shop located in a wonderful Japanese house.
Inside are a variety of multicolored wagashi so beautiful that you never get bored of looking at them.

A shop with a reasonable price range, perfect for some casual shopping.
It has been here for three generations and loved by the locals for a long time.

Established roughly 340 years ago, famous for their delicious traditional “angel hair” (sweet of egg yolks drawn into strands and boiled in sugar syrup, a Portuguese delicacy). The ingredients consist only in egg yolk and sugar, and their fabrication secret has been protected and handed down from the first generation to the thirteenth.

③Around Hakata

Their most famous item is the “Unmori Manju”, and is made with a filling composed of 8 kinds of vegetables. It makes a great gift.

Hakata is said to be the birthplace of manju.
In the Jotenji shrine, there is a stone monument to consecrate Hakata as the birthplace of udon, soba and manju. You can feel the long history of Hakata’s manju in this shop.
