Sasaguri

Outside the district

Sasaguri is a small town not far away from Fukuoka. Until yet this beautiful place isn’t so popular among western tourists. The reason why is unclear, but could be due to the small size of the hamlet. Even though it isn’t a big place, it is one of the cutest and most recovering towns I have ever been. It does only take about less than an one hour to get there. Besides the short distance also the view from the little train is just stunning. Normally you begin this journey in Hakata, means in a big city, and little by little you will leave the city atmosphere to find a peaceful spot surrounded by nature.

In Sasaguri itself you can visit a lot of places, the most famous sightseeing is of course the „Reclining Buddha“, which is also known under the name „Nehanzo“ or „Shaka Nehan“. This famous statue, which is the longest bronze statue on earth.

Next to „Reclining Buddha“ Sasaguri has other hotspots which are worth to going there, like the Kyudai no mori, the Soshodaji Temple or simply for a walk in the nature. Furthermore the location around the „Reclining Buddha“ has plenty of little Souvenirs shops, which also offers fresh food, like Takoyaki or Taiyaki.
